Subject: IGT S Plus (Haywire) - No Display - No Nothing but Lights

OK - This one has me dazed and confused. On a IGT S-Plus (Haywire), the only thing that works are the fluorescents. There is nothing on the digital display - dark. The three fuses are all good (even replaced each one on suspicion). Reset button also does nothing. Removed the mother board and reseated. Candle is dark also. Anybody have any suggestions on this one? I'm not finding any info in the manual regarding a machine with the display totally out. It assumes you can always get an error code and / or the reset button does something.
Thanks for your time and help - - -

Assuming your getting no reel movement or solinoids making noise sounds like lack of power to the processor board. When you say you removed the motherboard I'll take it that you mean the processor board, ie. transformer, reel & game chips etc. Take a look at the board at the bottom of the machine that the processor board plugs into, thats the mother board. There are also a number of harnesses that plug into the motherboard which can come out, get loose which could cause your problem if the harness from the power supply to that board accidently got pulled out.
Just throwing out a guess.

Your right about no reel movement or solinoids engaging and you're also right about my error on the 'mother board' (caught myself on that one after the message was already sent)! Using your suggetion, I checked all the plugs and harnesses going into the 'real' motherboard - and nothing changed when I powered up the machine. I'm going to guess the processor board is getting power (or partial power) because the heat sinks on some of the componets were still warm after removing it the first time to check for something obvious.
Again - Thanks for your time and suggestions!!

IF the processor board seems to be getting power then I would pull the CMOS chip off the board for a minute to try and reset things. Reinstall the chip, reinstall the processor board and see what you get. Also since your going to have the hopper out take a good look at those harnesses where they plug into the motherboard from the power supply, they have been known to overheat at times, melt the connector and could cause a voltage drop but not complete loss of juice.

Well................tried everything you suggested and it's still DOA (except for lights). The reels do jump a little (very slight) when the machine is first turned on. Also checked all the plugs and harnesses that connect to the mother board and nothing appears burned or melted. Reseated all connections on the MB. The only fuses on an S Plus are the three above the transformer - correct.
Thanks again for the time and effort !!

Assuming the reels have power (they should be stiff when you turn the machine on) then the processor board is seated in the machine correctly and you have checked all the harnesses then I would suspect either the chips or the board itself. I would check the chips to make sure all the legs are still attached and are inserted correctly. If you have another set of reel and/or game chips try changing them out. If the chips were ever put in upside down and the machine powered up then those chips are no good.

Buy Slot Machine

Slot machines were not designed for use outside of a casino, so at times they are not particularly 'user friendly'. On occasion, your machine will show a number (error code) in the display that will not go away and the machine will not accept coins or play. The machine is just telling you something isn't right!
If you were in a casino, you would just ask the next employee that walked by, but at home, you must fix it yourself (or pay for someone to come fix it for you!). Many errors are easily cleared, so don't despair!
Below we have listed some of the more common IGT S-Plus errors and the steps to clear them.
12 - Indicates a Low Battery; Replace Lithium Battery on Board
21 - Coin In Tilt; Check for jammed coins in the comparitor, Open/Close Door
3100 - Extra Coin Out; Open/Close Door
3200 - Coin Out Tilt; Open/Close Door
3300 - Hopper Empty; Refill the Hopper & Close Door
41 thru 45 - Reel Tilt; Open/Close Door
61 - Push White button for 2-3 seconds. Close the door.
61 1 - Turn Reset key on side of machine ONCE.
If you do not find a solution to the problem you are experiencing or if the error code you have is not addressed above, please take a few minutes to visit the great folks at NewLifeGames.com for answers to ALL of your slot machine questions!
